The Beast trail - St. Francisville

http://tunicatrails.org/?q=node/9

The Beast Trail is a 4.5 mile singletrack mountain biking/hiking trail within the West Feliciana Sports Park of St. Francisville, LA. Originally created by famed trail designer James Ramsaur, it was nicknamed "The Beast" by Baton Rouge mountain biker Charley Rome because of its very challenging double black diamond hills and switchbacks.

Coordinating the original trailbuilding efforts were former Lincoln Parish parks director Jay Ellington and West Feliciana Parish parks director Randy Albarez. James Ramsaur's other trail designs include the Tyler, TX State Park trail, the Eddie B. Jones "Monkey Trail" in Shreveport, and the Lincoln Parish Park trail. The Beast Trail is now officially maintained by the Tunica Trail Riders club, sponsored by West Feliciana Parish Parks and Recreation.

The Beast, due to its good drainage and high elevations, drains quickly and is usually ridable 6-12 hours after rainfall.

Good to have met Chris at LOCOfest on Saturday. I thought you all might be interested to see this video from our recent group ride. By Google's estimation Monroe is a little over 3 hours away from St. Francisville.

St. francisville is only about 2 1/2 hours away from monroe and yes it's hilly. I imagine it's like the Homochitto trail.

Sorry to hear about your tweak, Chris. I ate it a couple of times in the Monkey race too, thankfully nothing but handlebar strikes this time. Glad to hear of your interest, contact us through the tunicatrails.org website if you're interested in coming down.

The Beast is a double-black diamond trail. It's considerably steeper but shorter than Clear Springs. BTW that's our friend and solo 24 Hours of Clear Springs champ Charley Rome struggling on the tough switchback climb before my pard Chris Morgan makes it for the first time (and I got it on tape!)

We're working on getting something together in the Tunica Hills Wildlife Management Area doubletrack hiking trails this summer that would be a longer, more pleasant epic-style ride like what they do so well in the woods of the Homochito. I've ridden sections of the WMA trails that are really fun in their own right, like dirt luge.

I know that the flyer says this will be a "barebones" event, but Entergy and West Feliciana Parks & Rec. want to lend us a hand with this race, too. I cannot confirm these details yet, as of now they are still being finalized, but it is very likely that we will have cash prizes for Expert and Sport classes. We will have hand-crafted awards, T-Shirts, and plenty of refreshments.

The course is looking to be significantly longer than reported on the flyer. This race will debut the new Preliminary Loop that you may have seen discussed on the tunicatrails.org Forum.

The St. Francisville Inn On The Lake is the town's de facto motel. It is very close to the trail.
